Poor Frank

So, out of the kindness of my heart, I let Dad borrow Frank for a week or so, while he fixed a leak in Frank's rear differential. Next thing I know, Mom calls and says, "I don't know how to tell you this but, if Frank's back door could be any color, which color would you like?" Here's the story in an ode to Frank:

I Borrowed My Daughter's Car
Copyright © 2010 by Blake S. Atkin

My daughter needed a car to go off to school,
I would make her buy her own, as that is the rule.
But being a softy and not of good sense,
I bought an old heap--lots of miles but no dents.

When her favorite sister's hubby smashed a hole in the back,
It somehow fell to me to remedy the whack.
So I found an old door that didn't look mean,
Only problem, the "new" door was green!

But we put it on anyway on her silver car,
So in a getaway they couldn't follow her far.
So she took it off to school with only me to thank;
She was the only girl on campus with a lover named Frank

Well I “borrowed” that car to help fix a drip.
Little did I know it would be another fateful trip.
Following my dearest with the forks on my tractor,
A sideways look and quick stop were a factor,

I skewered old Frank right in his green door.
This time the fix would be easier than before;
The only problem is the color of the sheen--
Do we go for silver or keep old Frank's backside green?

I guess I'll have to keep the mustang for a little while longer (I really miss rattling down the freeway), and who knows what Frank will look like when I see him next.

Frank the Second

I think my blog is turning into the Frank Update. Oh well, here's the latest.
Spencer was kind enough to send me this picture of my "next car":

I don't know, Frank is pretty indestructible (trust me I've tried!), and I don't think he'll die before that one does. Frank's latest issue? The headlights work sometimes, but if they aren't working all you have to do is touch them and they magically come back on. Or if you stare at the car in front of you long enough trying to see if the lights are on they will turn on while you watch while waiting to turn onto the freeway. Just another one of Frank's quirks.

This reminds me of a discovery I made last December. It was finals week and my roommate Emmaleigh's car died. We figured it was just a dead battery and since I happen to own a pair of jumper cables and have had my fair share of dead batteries I figured Frank and I could jump her. We tried for a while but couldn't get it to work, when she said, "Oh well, I'll just call AAA." I thought "Hey, maybe I should get AAA." Then I realized I have redneck AAA. If, I mean when, Frank dies, I call Dad. If that doesn't work, I call Dan. If that doesn't work I call Spencer. Conveniently, they are all Atkins, thus, Triple A.

Frank has a new Girlfriend

But she just wants him for his body...

How do I love Frank? Let me count the ways:

Why Frank is the perfect significant other:

1. He takes care of me, even when he is sick
2. He likes to hang out with my friends, and doesn't monopolize my time
3. He is always willing to give me and my friends a ride anywhere, even Wyoming, and loves to help us run errands
4. He serenades me on long drives, and he never sings country when I'm around
5. He likes working with my dad and hanging out with my brothers
6. He always wants to go where I want to go
7. He cares for the environment; he won't let my friends throw litter out the window
8. He always wears my favorite colors, green and gray, and he coordinates
9. He keeps me on my toes with all of his quirks
10. He is comfortable to sit on even for my bony behind
11. He is too tough to die; he's been resurrected a couple times

Good thing I'm the only one who reads this...

So it's been a few MONTHS since I last posted and SO much has happened. This summer was insanely busy. It started off with a trip to Hawaii before Aliza's family moved back to the mainland. And then I spent almost 3 weeks in Europe after Spencer finished his Mission in Zurich. We went to Switzerland, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Italy, and Austria. Both trips were amazing. And the rest of the summer was spent moving pipe and weedwacking. Oh well, you can't travel all the time.
This year at BYU has been great! I live in The Elms Apartments with the 5 greatest girls ever. We are pretty much a family now. Sorry to the rest of my Family. You haven't been replaced it just seems like it.
A bit of sad news is the death of my beloved white Subaru. It passed away on November 9, 2008 after it was brutally attacked by a deer on the Freeway. I have been driving the Land Rover since then but apparently for Christmas I got an old Jeep that once had matching doors. Until last week in fact, when my brother-in-law backed it into a rock and shattered the back window, door, light, and bumper. After some major surgery on Christmas Eve, I now have a Frankenjeep--with a green back door to add some character to the Silver Jeep.
